OUR UNIT
The main aim of our Unit is to perform fundamental investigations into the physical chemistry and geochemistry of actinides and fission products to analyse their behaviour in the environment.
Additionaly, we carry out application-oriented investigations about the radionuclide retention/migration in the multi-barrier system of radioactive waste repositories to develop scientifically based evidence of their long-term safety and support management decisions.
Main processes affecting radionuclide solubility and mobility -- with special attention to those that may render contaminants more mobile -- are analysed from an experimental and theoretical point of view.
Process understanding at the fundamental level is also searched for the application of thermodynamic models, which increase predictive modelling capability of the RN behaviour under evolving chemical conditions.
