OPEN DAY AT CEDER-CIEMATSoria, 29 de julio de 2022.

On the 25th of July, we celebrated an open day at CEDER-CIEMAT, which gathered around fifty visitors.

During an almost three hour visit, the guests got to know the thermal conversion process and biomass facilities, where researchers do applied research related to biomass and solid waste. The good weather let us visit the biomass production and industrial crops area, including the new greenhouse facilities, which are adapted to research.

Next, we toured around the wind energy unit and the test facility of components of low-power wind turbines, where different parts of wind turbines, such as rotors, blades, gear boxes, electric generators or electronic power converters are tested.

CEDER-CIEMAT has a Smart microgrid for researching distributed generation from different renewable sources, consumption profiles, manageable loads and integrated energy storage systems. We showed visitors the advanced management system that controls our microgrid.

After the most difficult years of the pandemic, it has been a wonderful experience to reopen our research centre of renewable energies to the citizens. Here, more than fifty people work making science in the province of Soria.

A continuación se pasó por el área de energía eólica y su Laboratorio de Ensayos de Componentes de Aerogeneradores de Pequeña Potencia, donde se ensayan sus distintos componentes como palas y rotores, generadores eléctricos, cajas multiplicadoras o convertidores electrónicos de potencia. 

El CEDER-CIEMAT dispone de una red eléctrica de generación distribuida a partir de diferentes fuentes renovables, de consumos, cargas controlables y con algunos sistemas almacenamiento de energía integrados. Sobre esa microrred, se desarrolla una infraestructura de medida y control con capacidades avanzadas de gestión, cuyo funcionamiento se expuso como colofón a los visitantes en el auditorio, punto de partida y punto final de la visita. 

Ha sido una especial oportunidad, tras los años más severos de pandemia, para reabrir a la ciudadanía nuestro centro de investigación en energías renovables, en el que más de cincuenta personas trabajan haciendo ciencia en la provincia de Soria.
