Soil Conservation and Recovery Unit (CoReS)
Our research group forms part of the Environment Department in CIEMAT. Our work focuses on protecting soils, preserving their functions and corresponding ecosystem services. In the case of degraded soils and contaminated areas, we characterize the sites, select the most appropriate strategies and environmental technologies for their recuperation, and participate in subsequent monitoring; without neglecting the landscape integration and the impact on the surrounding population. We assess possible land use changes. We also study how to recuperate marginal lands and agricultural areas from a sustainable point of view, applying precision agriculture and protecting soils and crops. We develop soil amendments from organic waste for the recuperation of soils and for agriculture, making the circular economy a key priority of this action. Finally, we participate in outreach and training activities and we collaborate with research centers, universities and companies in order to share our experience and join forces to conserve and recuperate a precious natural resource such as soil.
